I didn’t read a ton this week, but here is the weekly roundup of media that I consumed. I actually got a lot of writing done which is unusual for me. You can check out my latest article here! It was really fun to write and it seems like it resonated with people.
academic articles
- Ways of Knowing, Ethics of Care in Piranesi’s Labyrinth by Courtney Sender – a loyal newsletter subscriber recommended this article for me to read after I finish Piranesi, which unfortunately I haven’t… but this looks very promising.
- Rape, Apotheosis, and Politics in Metamorphoses 14 and 15 by Alicia Matz – Congratulations to Alicia for this publication! I’ve read several articles about how to teach rape in the Metamorphoses, but I think that this article will be an awesome resource to add to syllabi that look at Ovid in the political sphere. If you don’t have institutional access, Alicia tweeted that she would be willing to share a PDF.
- Does Classics Have a Future? On Sarah Derbew’s “Untangling Blackness in Greek Antiquity” – This review was such a great read in itself. I really don’t read academic book reviews unless I need a summary and can’t afford the actual book, but I would definitely read this. I learned a lot, and it did make me want to read the entire book, which presumably is the point of book reviwes?
culture news
- DOJ v. PRH: All Our Coverage – I’ve been following the PRH/S&S case on Twitter, and this is a compilation of all the information available as of yet. It’s all very dramatic, but I’ve learned a lot about publishing from following this trial.
- Jennette McCurdy Once Needed Her Mom to Be an “Angel” as an Abuse Coping Mechanism. No Longer. – Another book review… but again, I really want to read this memoir now. I don’t love memoirs usually, and definitely not celebrity memoirs, but I think I might find something highly relatable about this.

twitter accounts
- https://twitter.com/A11yAwareness – This account would have been so helpful when I was teaching. There are great tips regarding accessibility on this account, and resources to find more information as well.
That’s it for the weekly roundup! If you liked this, check out my other posts, and subscribe to the newsletter!
