Happy New Year to all who celebrate! This holiday is extra special for me because, in 2024, my debut nonfiction book will be released!
I just turned in my last round of edits in December and will be moving on to the next steps of the production schedule. The publication process has been extremely challenging for me as a patience-deficient person, but the wait will be all the more worthwhile when Et Cetera comes out in August.
Here are some of the lessons I will be taking into my debut year:
- Humility: Believe it or not, I find myself trapped in the 20-something-year-old know-it-all character. It’s especially difficult since I am writing a nonfiction book and, therefore, must be an expert in my subject. But really, it’s okay to admit that I don’t know everything. That I’ll need some time to do more research. That I need to consult someone else with more experience.
- Patience: Okay, to be honest, I don’t really think I learned anything about patience. Maybe I was forced into patience, but I’m not sure that I’ll be able to take that lesson and apply it elsewhere yet. I’m sure that as an author, I’ll be forced into patience again, but… not a pleasant experience for me. I’m from New Jersey! I want things how I want them and when I want them! And everyone else should be working hard to give that to me!
- Thank you’s: Everyone loves a handwritten thank you card. I sent about 50 this year, and I’m hoping to double that this year. I am a person who asks others for what I want, and for whatever reason, they give it to me. I’d like to keep appreciating people for that, both in person and in a cute, craftsy way.
- Thoroughness: One thing about me, if I really want something, I’m gonna get it done. You can count on me to call every B&N in a 1000-mile radius to make sure they stock Et Cetera. I’m going to continue trying to help others in their careers and make the most of my relationships.

With that being said, there are a few ways you can support Et Cetera:
- Add Et Cetera to your GoodReads shelf and join the buzz.
- ???? Request your local library or bookstore to stock up! (Tutorial)
- ???? If you’re an educator, BIPOC and/or marginalized creator, fill out this Google form to indicate your interest in an advanced reader copy!
Thanks again, and happy new year!
